THE Pro Shop 4bbb event at Mendip Golf Club went ahead despite the continuing rain which seems to have been falling almost every day this year.
More than 20 brave souls competed and the competition was won by Philip Bendall playing with his grandson Ethan. They scored 46 points, just one ahead of Andrew Robinson and Wayne Dryburgh. In third place with a score of 43 points came Matt Rawlings and Chris Roe and Tim Flagg and Cameron Elliott were 4th with 42 points.
A total of 20 pairs played in the Ladies 9 hole Pairs Multiplier event which was won by Fiona Hassard and Lizzie Wood with a quite amazing score of 53 which included 3 x 9 point holes! In second place with 36 points came Anita Butcher and Pauline Williams. In third place with 30 points, after count back, came Dee Garnsworthy and Karen Cookson, who edged out Jane Ball and Linda Papadopoullos who were in fourth spot.
In a further Ladies event, a 9 hole Stand Aside Texas Scramble, 48 Ladies competed. Winning with a net 31 were Sue Alcock/Eileen Masters/Kay O’Connor/Chris Olds. In 2nd place came Andrea Williams/Chris Down/Corinne Durbin/Cora Pavey with a net 33. Third place went to Pippa Brown/Julia Doyle/Julia Phillips/Susy Rudkin with a net 34 and, after count back with a net 35, 4th place went to Jenny Ahlberg/Rosemary Brown/Rebecca Edwards/Gill Lowen.
Dreadful weather ruined the Social Golf’s 3 Clubs and a Putter event although two brave pairs completed their rounds, leaving Rosemary Brown/John Ward as the winners with 39 points, 2 ahead of Hayley Bullock/Phillip McKenny.
Many golfers say they cannot remember such a long spell of wet weather - with the forecast not much better.
