Last Saturday (14th October) was Somerset Junior Cup Day for clubs in the Mid-Somerset Football League.

Radstock A was home to a very good team in Somerton, who fielded several of the old Baltonsborough team. It was very even throughout the ninety minutes, although the home side had several very good chances in the first half, with even a penalty kick being missed.

Radstock broke the deadlock nearly on half-time, when Matt Dera scored. Somerton looked very dangerous on the break in the second half, but the home defence held them out.

Manager Paul Kingman decided to freshen up the team on seventy minutes, introducing Ash Boucher – and what a substitution it proved to be, with the player pouncing on a bouncing ball, to head past a stranded goalkeeper and make it 2-0.

The visitors pulled a goal back near the end, but it was too little to late.

Victoria Sports welcomed Dan Linham back to their team at home against Westhill. How the visitors must have wished he had not decided to make a return in the Junior Cup; the home team won 6-2, with Dan netting all six.

Frome Collegians went through at home against Westonzoyland, thanks to an Adam Lock penalty. Purnell Reserves won at home 5-1 against North Petherton. Coleford had a hard-fought game away to Shepton Beauchamp. Despite missing several players, they won 3-2. Chilcompton Reserves had a walkover against Montacute, and Pilton lost at home to Temple Combe 8-3.

There was only one game in the Premier League; Temple Cloud had a very good home win against Westfield Reserves 2-1. The home team’s marksmen were Ben Jefferies and Ian Page.

In the First Division, Clutton visited Belrose at the Blue School, Wells, and won 5-1. Peasedown Albion went away to Chew Magna Reserves, with goals from Rico Sobers and Dan Hucker, winning 2-0.

High Littleton at home played out a 2-2 draw with Meadow, and Somer Valley had one of their good days, beating Bath Villa at home 3-2, with all their goals coming from hatrick hero Jon West-Gall.

In the Second Division, Peasedown Reserves really like playing on the superb surface at Camerton Rec. They played very well against a good Saltford Reserves team, with Aaron Vine opening the scoring with a free kick from twenty yards. The other scorers were Tom Pielesz and Louis Diegutis.

Evercreech drew at home with Timsbury Reserves 4-4, and Coleford Reserves lost 3-1 at home to Wessex – Jesse Lines getting their only goal.

The Third Division saw Chilcompton A beating at home Purnell A 5-4, Stoke Rovers won at home against Chilcompton United 3-0, Pilton Reserves played away at Timsbury A, winning 1-0, Farrington Gurney played away to Westfield A and won 4-2, and Weston Bath beat Glastonbury Res at home 2-1.
