It was the Dimmock Green KO Cup Semi-Final on Saturday. Frome Collegians entertained Coleford Ath, a repeat of last year’s final.

In the first ten minutes, the visitors took the game to the home team, playing very good, controlled football, but only threatened the goal with a long-range shot that goalkeeper, Joe Smart, dealt with competently.

Frome went in front somewhat against the run of play in the fifteenth minute, as Barry Sandquest latched onto a loose ball in the box, smashing it into the net off the far post.

In the 33rd minute, the home side hit the bar with a close-range header, then on 35 minutes, Sandquest shot well-wide from a good position. Coleford should have equalised on 45 minutes; the ball going across the goal-line with no-one there to tap it in.

The good first half did not continue in the second. The only highlight was a penalty for Frome, converted by Theo Sing, to make the final score 2-0 – the home side was in complete control until the end.

What was pleasing, the League appointed three officials for both Semi-Finals; the three at the Frome match having superb games, in complete control throughout.

The other semi-final was between Pilton and Westhill Sports, with Pilton winning 3-0. Unfortunately, the referee, Steve Taylor, had to abandon the game on 84 minutes as Pilton player, Joe Reilly, suffered a broken leg. The League Management Committee wishes Joe a speedy recovery.

Top team in the Premier League, Peasedown Albion, were really up against it away to bottom team, Radstock A. The home team raced into a three-goal lead, with goals from Matt Dera and a brace from Callam Escott.

Back came the League-leaders, with Rico Sobers getting two and his strike partner, Dan Hucker, netting two to take the points, winning 4-3.

Meanwhile, Purnell Sports beat Victoria at home, 4-3.

In the First Division, Peasedown Albion Res consolidated their position at the top of the League, winning away at Chew Magna, 2-0. Getting the goals were Hayden Campbell and Harrison Nash.

Timsbury Res at home played out a 3-3 draw with Chilcompton Res. Evercreech won away at Clutton Res, 2-1, and Somer Valley won away at Wells A, 3-1. Netting for them were Chris Spurrey (2) and Fran Moon.

The Second Division top two teams, Wessex and Weston Bath, played each other, where the home team, Wessex, just fell over the line, 3-2, giving them a twelve-point cushion at the top of the League, and Coleford Res had a good 4-1 win away at Farrington.

Mendip Rangers of the Third Division dropped two valuable points, drawing at home to Chilcompton United, 1-1; the visitors equalising in the last few minutes.

In the Paulton Hospital Cup, Bath Villa at home beat the ten men of Frome Collegians, 8-1, to put them in the last eight.
