Oh dear, Norwest bowlers! Where were you when we needed you?
You certainly missed a treat. We had a beautiful sunny day and for those who came along, a really enjoyable afternoon.
After my cry for help with tombola prizes a couple of weeks ago, I have to say a big thank you to everyone, you pulled out all the stops and we had a really brilliant selection of prizes for both the tombola and raffle – it’s just a shame that we were so short of customers.
For those who did come along, there were lots of fun games, including hurling haggis, catching ducks, naming bears and cats and finding the jack, to name just a few. We had a white elephant stall, cake stall, tombola and raffle, which were all a great success. The barbecue did a roaring trade, thanks to Harold and Bett, and Pat was very busy keeping us all refreshed behind the bar.
I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped run the stalls and games, there are too many to mention individually, and chances are I’d leave someone out and be in trouble.
I’d also like to thank the many non-members who came along to support us, we even had a couple who read about our Fun Day in The Journal and popped along for the afternoon. It’s a lot of work to organise an event like this, and it makes me sad that the majority of our members can’t even come and support us when we are, after all, raising funds for their club.
Now to Bowls: the Ladies’ first game of the week, which was away to Wells, was cancelled due to a flooded green. That must be a first this season! However, Norwest’s green was fine so that our ladies met up for a roll-up and spent a very happy afternoon on the green, with tea and cake to follow.
On to Thursday, when the Ladies from Frome Park joined us for a Wild League game and an equally enjoyable afternoon, with lots of banter and much hilarity. Once again, after the game there was cake, but the icing on the cake for our girls was the 10-2 point victory. A great result girls; let’s see if we can keep it up.
On Tuesday, our Menfolk played their Quarter-Final game in the Wedmore Plate competition against Weston, Bath, but unfortunately, our Lads just couldn’t compete against a strong Weston team. We wish Weston well in the rest of the competition.
The Saturday County League East competition saw both the A and B teams playing at home with very satisfactory results. The A team were up against the chaps from Imperial, and they claimed a 10-2 victory, while the B team faced local rivals, Paulton, managing a draw, with each team taking six points.
And finally: can I remind you that on Sunday, 12th August at 2 p.m., it’s the Cecil Jones competition. This is a club game, for which you’ll need four woods, and if it runs true to form, we should all have great fun pitting our wits against each other. So please, do come along and support this competition and your club.
