PAULTON Rovers have been drawn at home to Chippenham Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup, the tie to be played week commencing September 29.
It follow’s Paulton’s 3-0 home victory over Tuffley Rovers in the opening round after a fine second-half display.
The first half was evenly fought out as both sides missed chances, the hosts through Jack Breton, Alistair Wach and Luke Mavridis, while the Gloucester visitors had shots from the lively Precious Abeiya, Callum Venna and Ollie Samuel all dealt with by Paulton’s competent 15 year old keeper Ben Rogers.
The second half saw Paulton move up a gear with slick wing play from Alistair Wach and Sean Markey testing the Tuffley keeper Drew Oliver. Paulton took the lead on 56 minutes when Mavridis was tugged back by a visiting defender. Markey made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Tuffley mounted sustained pressure but a well marshalled Paulton defence of Rohan Blunt, Alfie Kelleher, Harry Collins and skipper Etienne Norman coped well.
On 81 minutes Paulton made it 2-0 as Kelleher laid the ball to substitute Odysseas Barroqueiro who slipped the ball to Markey and from 20 yards out he drove a fierce low shot past Oliver.
Paulton had two golden chances from corners, narrowly headed wide. Subs Barroquiero and Alex North also pressed to add to the total, but not until 90+3 minutes did they make it 3-0 as another sub, Ashton Watkinson, reacted quickest to the ball as it ping ponged around the visitors goalmouth area to fire home.
