‘Why have Paulton not shown this form?’, wondered Manager, John Rendel, after Rovers pulled off an impressive win against Yate.
Liam Monelle had a chance for Paulton on eight minutes, but fired wide. James Byrne then started a move with Josh Morgan Williams, and Byrne looked certain to score but drove over the bar.
Yate had a great chance two minutes later, as Nick Pearce’s free-kick was parried away by keeper, George Burton, and Matt Tanner missed the target following up.
On the half-hour, Yate stopper, Harvey Rivers, was alert to tip away Morgan Williams’ free-kick. Rivers drove a long free-kick, finding Ross Langworthy, who tried to lob Burton, only to see the ball sail over the bar.
Paulton broke down the right, winning a corner on the taken left-footed by Josh Cann, and the ball was turned home to give his side the lead.
Rovers were on top and added a second on 79 minutes, as another Cann corner was headed home by Joe Guest.
Mitch Tippins, who hit the post with a shot, was running midfield with Guest, and Paulton looked to add to the tally as substitute, Omar Simpson, crossed for Morgan Williams to head narrowly wide. Burton kept a deserved clean sheet, saving well from Charlie Hutchins to snuff out any late danger.
