Paulton Rovers Ladies 4 Frome Town Women 1

Paulton Rovers Ladies finished 2021 with a commanding 4–1 victory over Frome Town Women.

The hosts opened the scoring after only two minutes when speedy winger Wilkinson broke down the right, cut inside and scored from the corner of the area. The lead was doubled on nine minutes when a great team move was expertly finished off by Gwyther.

However, and to their credit, Frome got a goal back ten minutes later on a breakaway through a confident finish by Underhill and also hit the crossbar with a deflected shot as they searched for an equalizer. The remainder of the half became scrappy which suited the visitors more than Paulton who led 2–1 at the interval.

The second half started in a similar way to the first and after only four minutes, the hardworking Rouemaine reacted quickest to a goalmouth scramble to extend the lead as she calmly slotted home. Ten minutes later, Gwyther grabbed her second, following up when strike partner Slocombe’s initial shot had been saved.

The industrious Knight was unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty as the hosts started to dominate the game and further chances continued to be created through some great forward play by a confident Paulton team against a tiring Frome side.
