PAULTON Rovers suffered another home defeat when they went down 3-1 in their first-ever meeting against Sporting Club Inkberrow in Division One South of the Southern League, writes Jon Green The opening minutes of the game offered the supporters some hope that Rovers would grab their first win after their improved performance the previous Saturday. They started on the front foot and took just five minutes to open scoring. Brandon Al picked up the ball and moved into the box. His shot was well saved by the Inkberrow keeper but the ball fell to Dylan Gould who was able to guide the ball into the top corner and grab his second of the season. But the good vibes were quickly dashed as Inkberrow began to dominate the possession and brought two good saves out of Archie Matthews before equalising in the 25th minute. Rovers struggled to maintain any possession for any length of time and found it hard to break down Inkberrow and it was the visitors that looked more likely to score again. The second half began with Rovers on the front foot again and had a good period of pressure in the first 10 minutes but were unable to test the keeper in any serious way. Again, Inkberrow started to gain the upper hand and took the lead in the 72nd minute after a mistake at the back allowed Jack Higgins-Pugsley to strike. The goal seemed to rock Rovers and it took just five minutes for Inkberrow to add their third. A sweeping move down the left gave Aiden Clark the chance to tap home from close range. A number of substitutions and a slight change allowed the hosts to push a little more towards the end of the game but the Inkberrow defence was equal to anything that was thrown at them.
