FROME TOWN 2 PAULTON ROVERS 0
Frome took the spoils in an even game, in which Paulton Rovers deserved a point.
A quickly taken Ed Butcher corner was laid back to Braeden Symes, whose low shot was narrowly past the post. Ben Bament then had a shot cleared off the Frome line.
Frome’s response saw Marcus Mapstone head over and from Joe O’Loughlin’s cross from the left, first Kan Simpson had a shot blocked, then Jon Davies’ follow-up was cleared off the line by Rovers skipper, Charlie Hitchings.
Symes whipped in a cross that was missed by former Paulton keeper, Kyle Phillips, who recently joined the Badger Hill outfit.
On 33 minutes, Butcher’s through ball saw Bament race on and miss a certain chance to give Rovers the lead, whilst at the other end, O’Loughlin’s pass found Davies, which visiting keeper, Joe Perry, was alert to snuff out the danger.
It was end-to-end stuff as the half-time whistle blew. The first chance on the restart was from a right winger, corner by Davies, which saw Sam Teale’s shot deflected for a corner.
On 65 minutes, Frome took the lead as a long ball by Simpson was controlled by Davies, who turned his marker to slot home.
Paulton brought on Jake Sloggett, who was shooting at every opportunity, and on 80 minutes, his curling drive beat Phillips and thundered off the corner of the crossbar and post. If that had gone in, a draw would have been the prediction.
However, in added time, yet another long ball fell to Davies, who laid the ball to substitute, Dan Cottle, to tap home.
