Dominic Eatherden has been reappointed Manager of the Somerset County League Division One East side, Timsbury Athletic, for the sixth successive season. The decision was ratified at the club’s AGM, which was held in the Cricket Clubroom. His assistant will again be Paul Tarmas.
Eatherden intimated, however, that it would be his last year in charge. Kevin Abbott will continue at the helm of the Mid-Somerset League Reserve team, with Paul Hallett continuing to run the A side.
In his third report as Chairman, Rob Veater looked back on a highly successful season for the club. He said: “I believe this has been another strong season for the club. Promotion for the First team from Division One was always going to be difficult, given that only one team would be promoted out of seventeen due to league restructuring.
“Injuries to key players probably robbed us of a chance to compete for the title. Reaching the Premier/First Division Cup Final was also a major achievement. Games were well-supported and the First team continued to play attractive football, which I think was appreciated by all.”
Veater said that the Reserve team continues to be a stepping stone for players with aspirations of playing at a higher standard, with several youngsters featuring for the Firsts throughout the season – none of whom let the club down. The number of players wishing to play throughout the season more than vindicated the club’s decision to start a Third team, and Veater said that their results exceeded the club’s expectations.
The Chairman was pleased that discipline had generally been good, with no sending-off’s in the First team, and he congratulated Jimmy Hailston on collecting the First Division’s Captain’s Respect Award. He reported that the barrier ground improvements had been completed by late September, and that the club intended to apply for retrospective planning permission for the advertising boards, which had been essential to finance the ground improvements.
