With few games in the area, a football-starved crowd of about 100 enjoyed free entry to see an end-to-end exciting game.

Paulton striker, Aaron Whittock, had two chances as the home defence broke up the visitors’ attacks.

Both keepers, Dan Riddle for Chilcompton and Simon for Rovers, were in fine form bringing off a number of fine saves.

In the second half, Whittock and winger, Callum Carter, had great chance to put their side ahead whilst an almighty goal-mouth scramble was somehow cleared by the home defence.

The only goal came on eighty minutes as substitute left-back, Jon Filer, split the Chilcompton defence for Whittock to race through. His effort hit the foot of the left-hand post, but the ball fell to his strike partner, Paul Gray, to turn the ball home and seal victory for Paulton.

Rovers are Away to Glastonbury on Saturday, kick-off at 2 pm.
