WELTON Rovers confirmed their Jewson Division One status next season with a determined and deserved 2-0 home victory over relegation‑threatened Cheddar on Easter Monday, aided by favourable results elsewhere in the division, writes Bob Allard.

In their final home match of what has been an eventful and often turbulent season, Welton were backed by another strong crowd of over 100 and immediately set the tempo. Will Ford went close with a sharp early effort, before Lewis Russell unleashed a powerful 30‑yard strike that skimmed over the bar.

Cheddar gradually settled and began to threaten, with Ryan Eardley heading goalwards from a right‑wing cross, only for Welton keeper Will Hunter to gather confidently.

The breakthrough arrived on 35 minutes. Excellent play down the right from Courtney Charles saw him surge forward, cut inside, and deliver a superb cross to the far post, where Ben Snell arrived to drive the ball emphatically into the net.

Welton continued to press, with Gio Angelinetta finding Snell in space, though this time the striker’s effort was comfortably held by visiting keeper Will Crease. Moments later, Snell struck again. A loose ball in the area fell kindly for the lively forward, who turned sharply and fired a fierce shot that Crease could only parry. Snell reacted quickest to bury the rebound from close range, giving Welton a well‑earned 2–0 half‑time lead.

Cheddar began the second half with renewed purpose. Elliot Keen twice forced smart saves from Hunter, and from the resulting corner Toby Hucher sent a header narrowly wide. Hunter was called upon again to deny Lewis Chappell with a crucial stop as the visitors pushed hard to get back into the contest.

Manager Wayne Thorne, his staff, and the entire squad deserve immense credit for engineering a remarkable turnaround after a bleak autumn period when relegation seemed almost inevitable.
