ABOUT100 players competed in Mendip Golf Club’s Mendacious Bowmaker, writes Stuart Disney. With the course playing well, scoring was particularly strong. The winners with a score of 84 points were David Goldie, Mark Redwood, Adrian Cross & Rob Beattie. Second place went to Brian Rawlings, Stepehen Coate, Richard Gumbleton & Lewis Gumbleton with 83 points and in 3rd place with 78 points were Martyn Russell, Kenneth Langridge, Stephen Cox and Clive Down.
Ladies Competition Results: The Ladies held a ‘Waltzing Matilda’ team event and the winners were June Page, Maureen Charlton, Pauline Young and Pat Roscow with a score of 80 points. Runners-up were Corrine Durbin, Isobel Panton, Linda Papadopoullos and Sandra Hares with 75 points and in third place were Diane Stanton, Susy Rudkin, Julie Doyle and Penelope Oliver with 73 points.
Match Report: Mendip A started their season at home against Oake Manor Pines. A very strong performance saw Mendip A win 4-1. Wins for Rob Edney & Paul Lewis, Nick White & Kev Keene, Mark Necker & Jack Cook, and Spencer Pocock & Ben Park who came back from 4 down to secure their win on the 18th.
The Seniors played away to Saltford Golf Club and on a lovely sunny Spring day (the Sun's brightness only out-shone by Martin Sutherland's after-match casual shirt), a competitive match resulted in an honourable 3.5/3.5 draw being the final outcome.
Congratulations to the winning pairings of Martin Sutherland & John Cross, Captain Paul Godwin and Tony Taylor, Shaun Rich & Selwyn Rees and the all-important half, in Match 4, from Martyn Russell & John Brooksbank.
The Mendip Seniors enjoyed the host club's first outing of the season on a well set up Saltford "Summer Course" and our hosts provided excellent food and jovial company in a very welcoming manner.
Other News: The PGA In Gloucestershire & Somerset held a winter medal at Mendip on Wednesday 1st April. The Professionals enjoyed the course in fine order with many great comments about the course.
Winning with a score of 5 under par, 66, was Alistair Balcombe from Tickenham Golf Centre. Runner up was Edward Goodwin from Lilleybrook Golf Club with a score of 70, 1 under par.
During 2025, Men’s Club Captain, Jack Hayes, and Ladies Club Captain, Louise Scott, were raising money for Mind in Somerset as their chosen charity.
A fabulous year, with many great fundraising initiatives held, resulted in a fabulous £12,306.62 being raised.
