Paulton Rovers Ladies 3

Keynsham Reserves 2

Paulton Rovers Ladies progressed to their first County Cup Final with an action packed, and hard fought, three-two victory against last season’s finalists Keynsham Reserves in front of a decent size crowd at Paulton Rovers FC.

The hosts started brightly but Keynsham took the lead after eight minutes through a breakaway that eventually saw a free shot from the edge of the area find the bottom corner.

Paulton’s top scorer Alex Gwyther equalised on fifteen minutes after great play by strike partner Alisha Stuart and shortly afterwards Eleri Webber added a second with a great low drive on twenty two minutes.

However, Keynsham continued to look dangerous on the break and equalised on thirty minutes from another overload, which rounded off the scoring in the first half.

The second half was a much scrappier game as both teams struggled to get on top and good chances were limited.

With the cup game looking to be heading towards penalties, Keynsham were given the chance to regain the lead on eighty five minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a clumsy challenge in the box. However, Captain Jones stood strong in the home goal and saved the penalty which gave Paulton renewed confidence which ultimately won them the game.

In the ninetieth minute, and with time running out, the impressive Yazmin Laver showed quick feet on the left before firing a dangerous low cross across the area to find Enya Wilkinson at the back post to calmly side foot home the winner.

The cup final is scheduled for Thursday 30th March at Brislington FC, and will be played against the winners of Frome Town Women/Frampton Rangers Ladies who play this coming weekend.
