The League’s two remaining teams in the Somerset Intermediate Cup unfortunately did not make it through to the Quarter-Finals last Saturday. Coleford Reserves, travelling away to Ilminster, found the opposition too strong, losing 2–0, and Frome Town Sports Reserves put up a great fight against one of the fancied teams to win the competition. Pen Mill fell just short, losing 3–2, and hopefully Baltonsborough and Saltford Reserves will play their game this Saturday, having been postponed twice.
The result of the day had to be Chilcompton United at home from the Third Division, in the Charity Cup, beating Premier League side, Purnell Reserves. Despite goals from Craig Rogers and Dan Mott for the visitors, the home team won 3–2. In the same competition, Radstock A beat Somer at home, 4–1, with the only goal for the visitors scored by Jamie Ford.
Victoria cruised into the Semi-Final of the Dimmock Green KO Cup, beating Clutton Reserves 9–1. Dan Linham was amongst the goals again, bagging five, supported by goals coming from Chris Reed (2), Jon Carpenter and Jon Hampton.
In the Wilmott Cup, Timsbury Reserves had a great win away to Westfield A, 6–2. Their goals came from hat trick man, Mark Hancock, Chris Midgley (2) and one from the ageless Clive Curtis. They are now in their second Semi-Final, having secured a place in the Tony Baxter Shield, where they have a tough away game at Bath Villa. Also in this competition Wessex beat Farrington Reserves at home, 5–0.
There was only one game in the Premier League which saw Interhound lose 2–1 to Temple Cloud, which takes them into second place in the league.
In the First Division, Westhill Sports closed the gap on second placed Baltonsborough by going away to Chew Magna Reserves and winning 8–1. Belrose played out a 1–1 home draw to the improving Meadow Rangers, with bottom side High Littleton securing a useful home point, drawing 2–2 against Pilton.
Peasedown Albion move three points clear at the top of the Second Division from closest rivals, Somer Valley, with a 6–1 win away to Westhill Sports Reserves. Bath Villa stay third, beating Glastonbury Reserves at home 6–0. Fourth placed team, Evercreech, just managed to overcome Pensford Reserves 2–1 at home.
There was only one game in the Third Division, which saw Old Crown move into second place; scoring 6–0 away against bottom team, Pilton Reserves.
One of the top games this Saturday is at Peasedown St John Cricket Club, where Second Divison leaders, Peasedown Albion, are home in the Charity Cup to Premier League’s second placed team, Temple Cloud. This should be a great game, with top Level 5 Referee, Brian Bishop, officiating.
