The Coleford team were presented with their Premier League Winner’s cup and medals by league Chairman, Bryn Hawkins, after their home game with Frome Collegians, but it was not a good day for the champions, as they went down 1–0 at home to one of the runners-up contenders, Frome Collegians, who limited the home team to very few chances.
In the Second Division, it was the battle of two of the front runners. Peasedown Albion were home to Bath Villa; the visitors really put on a show for the first thirty minutes, so it was no surprise when they went in front.
Back came the home team with a great equaliser from Lee Gould, who found the corner of the net with a curling shot. A few minutes later, they were in front when Tom Woodland found himself completely unmarked on the far post to head home. The visitors came back in the second half to draw the game, 2–2. Coleford Reserves went away to close rivals, Mells Reserves and won 1–0; Saltford Reserves won 2–0 away to Pensford Reserves.
Evercreech improved their chances of promotion with a good 1–1 draw away to second placed Somer Valley and Glastonbury Reserves get their first win of the season, beating Frome Town Sports 4–2 at home. The Third Division saw Old Crown give their promotion chances a boost, beating Westfield A 3–2 at home.
It was Semi-Final day in the Willmott Cup, Peasedown Albion made the Final by winning away at Purnell A, 2–0. The other game between Wessex and Timsbury Reserves will have to be replayed after a tremendous downpour.
In the Charity Cup, Westfield Reserves, after going 2–0 up away to Welton Arsenal, were pegged back by the home team with two goals from Rich Barnaby, but it was the away side, with two further goals, that progress to the Quarter-Finals. Chew Reserves are in the next round, beating Belrose away on penalties, and Westhill Sports take their place in the next round because Interhound have pulled out.
Meadow Rangers needed a good result in the Quarter-Final of the Clark Cup and they got it with a great home win against Chilcompton Reserves, 2–1. Victoria and Baltonsborough met in the Clark Cup played at Street, winning 2–1.
The season is really hotting up now, with teams in all divisions in the final push for the winners and runners-up spots – and not forgetting the Cup Finals.
Bryn Hawkins
