Last weekend started with a great advert for junior football, it was the final of the Dimmock Green Knock Out Cup, played at Shepton Mallet with over 250 spectators in attendance.
The match was between Westfield Reserves and Victoria Street, and what a game it turned out to be, Victoria taking the lead in the ninth minute, increasing their lead to 2–0 just before the break.
Westfield, kicking down the slope in the second half, piled on the pressure from the start, but they found the Victoria goalkeeper, Dom Cinicola, in excellent form. Westfield scored the two goals to level in the nintieth and 93rd minute to take the game to penalties, which Victoria won, 5–4.
It was no surprise that the Man of the Match adjudicator named Dom Cinicola, who President, Brian Wells, presented with the trophy. The cup and medals to both teams were presented by retiring Secretary, Nick Doble.
By beating Glastonbury at home 4–1 Peasedown Albion clinched the Second Division title. Their goal scorers were Lee Gould, Dan Hucker, Scott Baker and Kevin Allen and the cup and trophies were presented after the game by League Chairman, Bryn Hawkins.
In the reply of the Semi-Final of the Wilmott Cup, Wessex recorded a 5–0 victory over Timsbury Reserves. They will play either Purnell A or Peasedown Albion Reserves in the Final.
Frome Collegians are in second place in the Premier Division after a very good home win, 4–0 against Wells A.
In the First Division, Chilcompton Reserves beat High Littleton 4–0 and Meadow Rangers secured a very useful point, drawing 1–1 away to Clutton Reserves.
Bath Villa, by beating Pensford Reserves 3–1 in the Second Division, enhanced their chances of getting promoted as runners-up. Mells Reserves and Frome Town Sports Reserves played out a 0–0 draw.
During the week, in the Third Division, Timsbury Reserves beat Chilcompton United 10–0 and Peasedown Albion Reserves won at home against Purnell A, 5–0.
In the Moorland Cup, Evercreech are in to the Semi-Final – they beat Saltford Reserves 3–2 and Somer Valley progress to the Semi-Final, also with a win at home over Coleford Reserves, 3–0.
