After two highly successful years, Timsbury Athletic looked back on a season that had been a disappointment when it held its annual Presentation night at the Cricket Clubroom. However, a good end to the campaign had seen the club avoid relegation and there was nothing downbeat about the evening, with the emergence of a number of good young players.

Ellis Hancock was rewarded for his consistency throughout the season with two of the main awards. He was voted the First Team Players’ Player of the Year and also received the Roy Lockyer Memorial Trophy as Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Jack Nix was Dom Eatherden, the Manager’s Player of the Year, while the Young Player of the Year trophy was shared between Joe Hallett and Callum Taylor, who both made notable contributions in the senior side. The Reserve team Manager, Kevin Abbott’s award went to Declan Murphy, with Clive Curtis the Players’ choice. Nigel Day was a popular choice as the Clubman of the Year and received the James Adams Memorial Trophy.

Eatherden paid tribute to the work of Club Secretary, Martyn Sage, who he said had organised a wonderful exhibition to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary. He thanked his Assistant, Paul Tarmas, Reserve team Manager, Abbott, Kelvin Hancock and all the committee.

He said: “It has been a very up and down year, but at the end of the season the young players came into their own. At one time we looked dead and buried but a great effort saw us avoid relegation.”

Club Chairman, Rob Veater, and First Team Captain, Ross Padfield, both thanked Eatherden for all his efforts during the season. He had kept things together when the going had got tough and had created a very special atmosphere. Veater said that the last weeks of the season had been very encouraging, especially with the impact of the young players.

The Club President, Chris Fear, said it had not been the best of years for the club, but he stressed that every club goes through periods like this. He told members that they had a great Manager and Club and was very proud to continue as its President.
