Timsbury Athletic produced an exhilarating display to destroy fourth-placed Mendip Broadwalk, with a 10-1 home win in the Somerset County League Division One East.

The visitors struggled to cope with the pace and potency of the home attack, and Timsbury looked dangerous every time they moved forward. The home side were ahead after just two minutes, when Lewis Blannin headed home from Jem Lutwama’s cross. Four minutes later, Toby Neilson found Rhys Cook, who shot past George Brimble in the Mendip goal.

The pressure was relentless, and after Jimmy Hailston and Cook had shot wide, Blannin notched his second goal of the game after Cook had crossed from the left.

Lutwama missed a great chance to add a fourth, when he scuffed wide from close in, but the next goal was not long away, with Cook finishing with aplomb. Right on half-time, the Blannin/Cook combination worked again, with Blannin crossing for Cook to complete his hat-trick.

Within five minutes of the second half, Timsbury scored a sixth when Ebner Heatley curled an excellent free-kick past Brimble. The goals continued to come, with Lutwama heading home a Jack Nix cross for the seventh, and Heatley grabbing his second goal after being set up by Blannin.

Cook broke through again and looked certain to score, before being denied by Brimble, but then Mendip, to their credit, pushed forward and Gary Hancock forced a superb save from home keeper, Jack Scrivens.

Scrivens twice denied Tom Milkins with smart saves, before substitute, Tuso Makombe, claimed Timsbury’s ninth goal with a superb individual effort that would not have been out of place on ‘Match of the Day’.

Another home substitute, Seb Nix, completed the rout with Timsbury’s tenth goal, before Sean Caines headed a consolation goal for the visitors right on time.
