Timsbury Athletic are through to the second round of the Somerset Senior Cup after coming from behind to beat Cleeve West Town 2–1 at home. The home side looked to be going out of the competition, before skipper, Ross Padfield, equalised with a penalty on the stroke of full-time and an extra time goal from Jimmy Hailston clinched the victory.
Timsbury were quickly out of the blocks and created a number of early chances. A clever chip from Hailston was just over the top before Timsbury were caught out at the back. Callum Thompson found himself unmarked in the box and made no mistake with a cool finish. The goal inspired the visitors and Ben Paisey did well to cut out a dangerous cross from Grant Evans and then had to react quickly when a goalbound effort from George Mallett was blocked by Joe Parker and deflected to the keeper.
There was little between the two sides in the second half, but few clear cut chances. Hailston had one shot blocked on the line after a good run from Parker and at the other end, Evans just failed to meet a dangerous centre from Craig Rimmer and then forced Paisey to save well. Paisey also coped competently with Mallett’s shot, while Evans again came close. It looked like Cleeve’s game, but in the 90th minute, Ellis Hancock was brought down and the inspirational Padfield made no mistake from the spot-kick. Two minutes into extra time, Hailston sent in a lob from the right wing and Hewitt totally misjudged the effort which finished in the back of the net.
Cleeve fought hard in the second half of extra time and Paisey had to move quickly to push a Jon Mitchell shot round the post, but Timsbury remained strong at the back and held on for victory.
