Timsbury were too strong for the visitors from Broad Plain, who found themselves hit for six in Division One East of the Somerset Senior League.
The game was played in tricky conditions, with the ground wet underfoot. The home side had the first chance when Bishop wriggled through the Broad Plain defence, only for the keeper, Marshall, to make a smart save at his feet. Marshall then saved well from a 25-yard free kick from Nix, which he turned around the post. Brookes was then called upon to clear in front of the home goal for a corner after a good cross from Bryne. The corner kick fell to the feet of Templar, on the edge of the box, but his shot flew high over the bar.
The game was turning into a scrappy affair and only really came to life on the half hour mark; Hailston collected the ball in midfield and after a neat exchange of passing with Dowling, curled a shot wide of the keeper from the edge of the box to make it 1–0. Five minutes later, Dowling raced through and slid a goal-bound shot past the advancing Marshall, only for Feltham to clear before it crossed the line, however, Blannin was on hand to collect the rebound and make it 2–0. Blannin added a third on the stroke of half-time.
Within five minutes of the restart, Taylor made it 4–0 when a fine header found the back of the net from another Dowling corner. The visitors were unlucky not to get one back, when Parker somehow cleared a Sanders shot from point blank range off the line, but then, with their next attack, Bryne’s through ball found Gostlin, whose fine shot gave Hamilton no chance in the home goal to make it 4–1. The visitors rallied and but for a clearance off the line by Brookes, would have got another. At the other end, Hancock had a fine shot saved by Marshall, and then Bishop hit the post with only the keeper to beat.
Dowling then made it five when the pace of Blannin evaded the last defender and squared the ball for him to shoot into an empty net. With ten minutes left, Davis was left unmarked at the far post and his fine header made it 5–2. Hancock then made it 6–2 with the best goal of the game after fine work by Parker and Dowling found him with his back to the goal on the edge of the box, where he turned and fired a left-footed shot into the roof of the net.
