On the afternoon of Saturday, 7th August, Westfield were the opposition for Tunley Athletic in the seventeenth annual Freda Hookings MBE Memorial Trophy game.
Freda was President of Tunley for over forty years and first lady Vice
President of the Somerset FA. She received her MBE in the Millennium New Year’s honours list for her services to the club.
The trophy was donated by Freda’s family to be played between Tunley and a local football club in a pre-season match.
The result was 2–2 at full time, so penalties were played to determine the result, which favoured Westfield 6–5. The Barry Gould trophy was awarded to Tunley’s Man of the Match, Scott Eades.
Both Clubs would like to thank Darren Robbins for refereeing the game this year. Players, friends and family gathered after the match for refreshments in Tunley’s Recreation Centre.
The photo shows Freda’s Daughter and Great Grandchildren presenting the trophies to Westfield’s Captain, Jack Gianella and Tunley’s Man of the Match, Scott Eades.
Tunley’s season starts this Saturday in the Uhlsport Somerset County League away to Bishop Sutton Reserves. Westfield play against Stockwood Green. Good luck and best wishes go to both teams after such a couple of unusual past seasons.
