Welton Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Clive Scott as their new First Team Manager. Assisted by Mark Brown, Scott will take the helm for the 2016/17 season as Welton compete in the Toolstation Western League First Division, following their relegation from the Premier in last season’s campaign.

Clive is no stranger to the Green Army, with his son, Rickie Scott, having won the club’s Supporters’ Player and Players’ Player awards at the 2014/15 end of season prize giving. Although this is Scott’s first Western League management role, he has plenty of experience of the division, having enjoyed a playing career with the likes of Melksham Town and Odd Down.

The new manager said: “Having watched the club many times over the past two seasons, I’ve become friendly with a number of the supporters and officials and seen what a great atmosphere there is here. This is essential in a club growing and progressing and I am looking forward to being a part of that.”

He continued: “We’ve confirmed the retention of some key players from last season’s Welton side and are now adding to that to ensure we’re competitive from the word go.”

Chairman, Ryan Grubb, expressed his happiness at the appointment: “We’ve been really impressed by Clive’s enthusiasm for taking on this position and the style of football he wants his team to play. We’re very happy we’ve got the right man for the job.”

Director, Gareth Paisey, added: “Everything Clive has said during the interview process has been music to our ears. It’s clear he will look to maintain the positive feeling we have at the club between players and supporters and he’s clearly the type of manager that players will enjoy playing for and want to give their best for. Out of all the applicants it was clear that Clive and his assistant, Mark, best appreciated what we’re about at Welton Rovers and that he can help us improve and push on as a club.”

Clive Scott and Mark Brown replace the outgoing management duo of Nick Beaverstock and Malcolm Beck who departed last month following three years in charge of Welton Rovers. Nick and Malcolm were awarded with the side’s Club Man award at the end of season presentation as a sign of Welton’s gratitude for all they have done for Welton in their years of involvement with the club. The appointment of Clive completes the Welton Rovers management set-up for 2016/17 with Clayton Dando and Aaron Seviour continuing their roles as Reserve Team and Under-18s manager respectively.

Welton Rovers’ competitive season will begin on Saturday, 6th August with an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round fixture (draw yet to be made). A programme of pre-season fixtures spanning July will be announced shortly.

Pre-season for the First Team, Reserves and Under-18s will begin on Tuesday, 28th June, with any players old or new being asked to meet at West Clewes at 6.45 p.m. Anybody wishing to try out for any of the club’s teams will be welcomed.
