Welton Rovers Manager, Clive Scott, is featured on this weeks edition of the Toolstation Western League podcast, reflecting on an impressive start to the season that see’s the Green Army sit on top of the Western League First Division.

Clive spoke to former Somer Valley FM sports presenter, Ian Nockolds, highlighting the fact that his sides success this season was well-deserved: “At the back end of last season we were a top four side. The boys have worked really hard at training and on game day and now its time for them to get the just rewards.

"It took them a couple of seasons to start to believe how good they were, but now they’ve started to believe we’re moving on. The crowds have started to increase, which is good, because we are winning, so three figure gates are on the horizon.”

Welton beat high flying Devizes five one at the weekend, having already despatched inform Bishops Lydeard and Warminster. Despite their good start, Clive knows that tougher times are to come.

He continued: “Never write of Keynsham and Cheddar’s always going to be there. A good family Club, they’ve been together for a long time.”

Player belief was singled out by Clive as the key factor in the club’s success. Welton have a young team, and many of the players making the step up from Junior football into the Western League.

The player and manager are learning together, developing as a unit and growing in confidence as their results continue to impress.

How long Welton’s good run of form continues, only time will tell. It may be a cliché, but Clive is clearly taking one game at a time, an approach that has served his side well so far this season.

Clive said: “We’re up there. Teams will be after us, that we know. We just have to keep the consistency going. The best thing about my side is that they fear no one”.

Welton travel to Longwell Green for an early 11 a.m. kick off on Saturday, 6th October in one of the Western Leagues featured Ground Hop games.
