WELTON Rovers signed off their final midweek fixture of the season in emphatic style, returning from South Bristol with all three points after a commanding 4-1 performance against Mendip Broadwalk in the first division of the Jewson Western League, writes Bob Allard.
Despite not being at full‑strength, manager Wayne Thorne’s side delivered a display full of discipline, quality and resilience.
The match began cautiously, with both teams taking time to find rhythm and clear chances proving limited. The hosts broke the deadlock on the half‑hour mark, but their advantage was short‑lived. Five minutes later, Courtney Charles produced a superb equaliser, unleashing a stunning strike that flew beyond the Broadwalk keeper.
Both sides pressed for a second before the interval, but the score remained 1–1 at half‑time. The second half saw a noticeable increase in tempo, with both teams playing attractive, end‑to‑end football. The two goalkeepers were called upon to make important saves as the contest remained finely balanced.
With 20 minutes left, Welton found the breakthrough their pressure deserved. Charles threaded an excellent pass to Gio Angelinetta, who cut inside and squared the ball to Will Ford for a simple finish into an unguarded net.
Welton tightened their grip on the match as full‑time approached. With three minutes remaining, Angelinetta’s powerful effort caused problems for the Broadwalk defence, and Charles reacted quickest in the ensuing scramble to drill the ball home.
Deep in injury-time, Welton added further gloss to the scoreline. Another fierce strike from Charles wasn’t dealt with, and Ford was on hand again to tap in from close range, securing his second of the evening and Welton’s fourth.
After the previous disappointment at Hengrove, this was the ideal response from Welton —a composed, hard‑working, and thoroughly deserved victory at a venue where points are notoriously difficult to come by.
