EASTER weekend saw a flurry of Pro Shop Stableford events at Mendip Golf Club.
Pro Shop Stableford - Good Friday: 1st David Forshaw(17) 40 (bk 9 ), 2nd Graham Colbourne(19) 40, 3rd Duncan Soper(25) 40 Easter Saturday: Division 1 1st Kevin Brimble - 37, 2nd Rob Beattie - 36 , 3rd Jake Russell - 34. Division 2 1st Clayton Merrett - 38, 2nd Dan Rowe - 37 (bk9), 3rd Lee Sparkes - 37. Divsion 3 1st Tim Patch – 40, 2nd Charlie Stokes - 39, 3rd Paul Panton - 38.
Bank Holiday Monday: Division 1 1st Rob Beattie - 36 (bk9), 2nd Oscar Alexander - 36 (bk9), 3rd Miles Hackett - 36.
Division 2 1st Harry Connock - 38, 2nd Dilhan Perkins - 37, 3rd Kevin Dunbar - 34. Division 3 1st Trudy Davies - 51, 2nd Andrew Chambler - 41 (bk9), 3rd Helen Roberts - 41 Meanwhile, 41 ladies competed in the first of their Order of Merit events. The winning score of 37 points was Maureen Charlton. Runner up, also with 37 points, was Min Woodward with Anne Collins (36) snatching 3rd place on countback.
The Seniors played a singles Stableford on Friday 10th April. 100 players competed and the winning score was 41 points by Richard White. Division 1 winners were Martin Myers with 37 points, Brian Smith in 2nd place with 36 points and in 3rd place was Bryan Lewis with 35 points.
Division 2 winners were Colin Wiltshire with 40 points, in 2nd place was Alan Williams with 40 points and in 3rd place with 39 points was Mike Merrick.
Division 3 was won by Richard Evans with 40 points, 2nd place, also with 40 points, was Stephen Stark and in 3rd place with 39 points was Julian Pallister. Easter Bank Holiday Monday was a 9 hole and 18 hole junior Stableford played with the winners being Jacob Hartley with 18 points over 9 holes and his brother Noah Hartley winning the 18 hole Stableford with 31 points.
On Wednesday, 8th April, the juniors played in the national ‘Unleash Your Drive’ competition. This event, run in conjunction with the Golf Foundation, aims to promote golf in schools, from improving mental wellbeing, and getting more juniors into golf. Thirteen played in the event and winning with 39 points was Junior Vice Captain, Oscar Alexander, on countback from Joseph Parson, also with 39 points.
The Seniors Scratch team visited Worlebury for the first round match in this year's competition. Unfortunately, Mendip lost 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. Congratulations to Darrin Vowell for his win and to Charlie Pike for his half.
On their third outing of the year the Mendip Seniors secured an excellent 4.5/1.5 away victory in their friendly match at Clevedon. Halved matches by the pairings of Rob Thain/Steven Ball, Ian Whittamore/Dave Pilbeam and Paul Godwin and Mike Tout were enhanced by victories from the pairings of Nick Inskip/David Judge, Paul Wood/Norman Squire and Kenneth Langridge & Roland Greenway.
The 2026 Mens & Ladies Club Captains Phil Leadbeater and Alison Kay, along with Junior Captain, Libbie Dezis, held the annual ‘Captains Drive In’ on Saturday 11th April. A full field of 120 players enjoyed the event.
Men’s Winners - Jack Vowell, Martin Thatcher, Jack Cook & Tim Cook with 89 points.
Ladies Team - Philippa Brown, Susy Rudkin, Julie Doyle & Susan Forshaw with 83 points
Mixed Team - Hayley Bullock, Phillip Mckenny, Rosemary Brown & John Ward with 84 points
