There were runaway winners in the latest competition run by the Fosseway Golf Club Seniors' Section. Geoff Broadway and George Underwood came in with a nett 46 in the Bill Lester Texas Scramble, a score that must have even impressed the trophy sponsor himself.
For most of the morning it seemed that a 51 would be good enough to capture the trophy, but late finishers, Broadway and Underwood, stole the show.
Mike Cage and Reg Curtis came in second with 51, a score equalled by John Bendle and Jack Curtis who had to settle for third place after countback.
This Thursday, the Seniors will be competing for the Arctic Star Trophy in the Three Club Challenge. This trophy was presented to the club by Colin Eaton who almost single-handedly founded the Seniors' Section back in 1984. Colin served on the North Atlantic Convoys in World War Two' but, although he still takes an active interest in the club, is no longer able to play.
This year's Captain, Gerald Rowell, is also struggling with eye problems at the moment and club members wish him a speedy recovery.
