Bob Smith continued his successful season in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club when he scooped top prize in another enjoyable and well-organised away day at Cumberwell Park Golf Club in Wiltshire.
His Stableford score of 37 saw him four clear of John Appleton, with Colin Moon third on 32. Smith also won the award for being nearest the pin on the sixteenth hole, while Denis White struck the longest drive on the sixth hole.
Captain Cyril Blacker and Howard Nowell shared the prize money for two spot. Despite the threat of rain, most groups were back in the clubhouse before heavy rain arrived and continued for most of the evening.
The following day, the Seniors held the Groundsman's Trophy back at club headquarters and it ended in success for the pairing of Rod Bruce and Malcolm Tucker, who secured 38 Stableford points. It was Tucker's third successive win in the event. One point behind came Terry Button and Mike Ricketts, with Blacker and John Bendle third with 35.
On Thursday afternoon (June 6th), the Seniors will be holding the popular mixed puttsomes competition for the Joe Hawkins Cup. This social event sees the men play all the shots to the green, with their lady partners doing the putting.
