Allen Cheney was on fine form for the January medal in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club, winning the event with a net score of sixty two.

His excellent gross score of seventy four saw him beat Malcolm Tucker who also had a net score of sixty two but was beaten on countback. In third place came the new competitions’ secretary Chris Appleton who recorded a gross seventy seven and net sixty three.

Cheney with his partner Pat Cray again featured prominently in the Gruesomes competition for the Broadway and Smith Cup but on this occasion had to settle for second place.

Three shots clear at the top were Richard Dancey and Noel Chatfield with a net sixty three. Cheney and Cray had a net sixty six with Brian Phelps and Alan Jones in third place with a net seventy two beating Tucker and Geoff Hallett on countback.

This is a unique competition where a good drive up the middle of the fairway will usually be of little help. Both players drive and the opposing pair choose the ball they wish their opponents to play naturally selecting the most difficult shot.
