Some success at Purnell Bowls Club this week. Ann Toogood's quartet of Jan Palmer, Maureen Withey and Chris Godfrey, after beating a team from Paulton at home, have reached the Quarter-Finals of the County Fours.
In the Men's County Competitions, Don Dart and Hugh Lorimer won at home against Kevin Jones and Ross Turnball of Bloomfield, Bath, after being 12–11 down, they won the end and increased the length of the jack, which the visitors could not handle. The home duo then won every point to win 24–12. They now have a difficult away tie at Street against Tim Salter and partner.
The only remaining triple for the club left in the County Competition is Jim Towells, Don Dart and Hugh Lorimer, who won a difficult game away at Norwest and progress to the next round. The Ladies had a good win on Saturday morning against Frome Selwood. They lost by just one shot on two rinks, but won the game by gaining more shots on the other rink, 8–4. The Mixed Team gained an 8–4 win on points by winning on just one rink against Norwest. In the Mid-Somerset League, Purnell recorded their first win, managing to win on one rink, losing on the other two, but winning ultimately on shot difference, 8–4, against Alexander Park. It doesn't get any better in the County League, with the A Team only winning on one rink away to Victoria, Weston-super-Mare, gaining just two points, as did the B Team at Bath.
