25 teams signed up, eight teams entered and six teams finished.

Although it may sound like a report from Aintree’s Grand National, it was, in fact, Farrington Park’s Ladies’ Morning on 19th October.

The event was the Committee Cup, a Four Ball Better Ball, which had already been postponed due to bad weather. Most of the Ladies felt the prospect of a very wet day was too much, and decided to seek the comfort of the clubhouse or an early dart home. The eight teams that bravely ventured out onto the course hoped the local weather’s prediction of dry spells would come to fruition. Sadly not.

The rain dominated the day, and only six soggy score cards were handed in. The winning pair, with a commendable score, were Fiona Hassard and Carol King, with 40 points, second were Terri O’Shea and Corrine Durbin, with 39 points, and third were Carol Jones and Jane Ball, with 34 points.

With autumn conditions setting in and the leaves on the ground, it was tight at the top of the Men’s Division One, with two players on 40 points – Andy Penney on top, beating Huw Jones into second on countback, with John Hogg third on 38 points. A score of 40 points in Division Two was to give top honours to Gary Payne, with Warren Cowling a close second on 39 points and Andy Casling continuing his good form in third on 38 points.

With the better weather on the Sunday, once again it was many congratulations to Adrian Busson for his hole in one on the par-three 15th. In Division One, it was Lee Swain, with a top-class round of 39 points, followed closely by Mark Chandler on 38 points and Mark Adams on 36 points.

On a dank, miserable morning more suited to Himalayan trekking, the Seniors of Farrington Park did their utmost to beat the elements. A few needed guides to return them safely to base camp. The remainder battled on, and were rewarded with adulation and respect – if only that were true!

It was left to the trio of Rob Thain, Philip Michael and Dave Lewis to bring normality to the day, thereby ensuring that Captain, Phil Thompson and his team, were not in the winners’ enclosure again. Having racked up more column inches than Brexit, Messers Thompson and Glibbery’s winnings over the last four weeks have put them in reach of the 40% tax bracket!
