A TOTAL of 42 pairs played in the Mendip Vase 4bbb Open event at Mendip Golf Club.

Best Members team were Alan and Rebecca Edwards with an amazing 50 points, Lee Callow and Danny Durbin were 2nd with 45 and Chris Betenson and Mike Mecalfe (Wells) were 3rd with 43 after count back. The Best Visitors team came from Cumberwell Park who carded 43, beating a Saltford/Stockwood Vale pairing on count back, with a Bath pairing 3rd on 42.18.

Teams played in the 4 man Bowmaker which saw a win for Seniors Captain Elect Paul Godwin/Frank Collins/Colin Davies/Michael Blowers with 91, just one ahead of Kevin Keene/Darren Darby-Jones/Mario Rollo/Mark Wintersgill with the long established team of Brian Smith/Eric Jordan/John Hargraves and this time joined by Keith Beasley, 3rd with 89 after a 6 way count back.

Fifty-four Ladies played in the Stableford event which saw a win for Lally Gibson in Div 1 with 43 points with Kerry Pawley 2nd with 42 after count back from Edwina Willis. Div 2 went to Libby Bellew with 39 points, Anne Collins was 2nd also with 39 and Karen Cookson was 3rd with 38. Div 3 was won by Pat Roscow with 43 points with Min Woodward 2nd with 39 after count back from Carol Curtis.

However, the overall winner with an incredible 52 points was Rebecca Edwards playing off a handicap of 41, this score being a new course record of Stableford points off the red tees. Rebecca, who has not been playing the game that long, is now well and truly finding her feet (see Mendip Vase result above) and this latest result will see a substantial drop in handicap; well done Rebecca.

On the same day the 3rd and final round of the 9 hole Duchess Cup competition was played which saw a win for Andrea Williams with 22 points after count back from Eileen Masters. Now the three rounds have been completed, it remains to be seen who the overall winner of the Cup is.

The Alliance A team enjoyed a fine 8-6 win when visiting Clevedon with wins from Aimee Sawyer, Ellen Reakes. Libbie Dezis and Lynne Vowles. This all but guarantees their promotion to the First Division.

Aimee and Ellen continued their fine run in the Bristol & District Scratch Cup, winning their semi final match. They now meet a pairing from Weston in the final, to be played at Wells and we wish them all the best.

Having all ready secured promotion the Seniors Avalon team won their final match against Enmore 4-1 with wins from team captain David Braithwaite/Tony Scott, Steve Davis/Simon Atkinson, Richard Bull/Kevin Carmody and Bryan Lewis/Tony Taylor.

However the Friendly team suffered a heavy defeat when visiting Kingsdown on a wild, wet and windy day with only Steve Regler and team captain Paul Wood able to gain a half to avoid a whitewash.
