On a bitterly cold day, the Mixed Section at Farrington Park held their belated Christmas Fun competition, held over from December due to the poor weather conditions.

On a course reduced in length, the thirteen holes available were more than enough for the players to finish and get in from the cold to enjoy a much-appreciated Sunday carvery, complete with Christmas crackers and a few heart-warming glasses of wine.

With prizes for the ‘Best Dressed Couple’ on the line, everyone entered into the spirit of things despite the strange looks from diners unaware of the goings-on! With a Christmas quiz to contend with as well, there was not a lot of chatter at the dinner table, as players tried their best to solve anagrams between mouthfuls of food!

With so much going on, the actual golf result was almost incidental, but some decent scoring was achieved nevertheless.

Our thanks go to the catering staff for their hard work on an extremely busy Sunday in the restaurant.

Winners of the golf were Rob Thain, Dave Forshaw, Pauline Brixey and Margaret Seery, with 53 points. In second place were Steve Ball, Steve Park, Mandy Hobbs and Min Woodward, with 49 points. In third place were Bob Earney, Rob Porter, Bobby Appleby and Sue Forshaw, with 48 points.

Winners of the Christmas Quiz were Cynthia Miller, Mike Woodward, Pierce O’Shea, Phil Toogood and Julie Toogood. The ‘Best Dressed Couple’ were Dave and Sue Forshaw.

Our thanks to all who participated on the day – it was great fun and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present.
