Wells Golf Club Ladies ended their 2021 season with the AGM and prizegiving.
Stand out winners were Christine Jukes, winning the Somerset Grass Roots Cup in her first season with Wells –Christine is only the second Wells lady to win this trophy.
Polly Clark won the Wells’ Ladies Club Championship and Cath Levell walked away with a grand total of five trophies.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners.
AGM reports for the year included the success of the Women in Golf initiative at Wells being headed up by Marilyn Cole. Marilyn and her team ran chip and chat, fun and fizz and family day events whilst encouraging ladies and girls to venture out on the course and ultimately become members.
The hard work of the team resulted in one hundred and two entrants to the events and a 15% increase in members of the ladies’ and girls’ sections.
The Annual Wells Salver
It was a cold and breezy day at Wells GC on Sunday last, but fortunately the sun shone to take the edge off the low temperatures when Worlebury’s finest played against Wells Club Captain Dean Hamilton’s pick of 16 players in the annual Wells Salver.
Worlebury have been dominant in these annual matches in recent years so Wells needed to turn the tide and succeeded with notable wins from the pairings of Dave Hayward & Steve Bocquet, Phil Spring & Rob Swift, Mike Magrath & Andy Williams, and Cath Levell & Katrina Foote. The day was capped off with a lovely roast meal in the clubhouse amid a friendly and jovial
atmosphere. A great event to round off the Captain’s year.
