This year’s Captain in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club got his tenure off to the best possible start by winning the March Medal by two shots.
In a high scoring morning, Captain John Appleton’s nett total of 66 was enough to see off the challenge of the in-form John Bendle and John Waters, who both recorded nett 68s. Bendle took second place on countback.
In the Somerset Seniors Bowl, Fosseway again failed to get over the first hurdle, losing to Stockwood Vale at Farrington Park by four games to one. Phil Moody and Pat Cray enabled Fosseway to at least put one victory on the board, winning their match 4&3. Bendle and Ricketts came close losing 2&1, Allen Cheney and Cyril Blacker lost 3&1, Gerry Rowell and Terry Button went down 6&4 and Barry Dugmore and Malcolm Tucker were beaten 7&6.
