Farrington Park held its Captains’ Charity Day in glorious sunshine recently. All money raised at the event will be going to the chosen charity of the year, Cancer Research UK.

The fundraising took the form of a Bowmaker competition of teams of four players with various other prizes for skills such as ‘the longest drive’ and ‘nearest the pin in two shots’.

The competition was very well supported by the Men’s, Men’s Seniors and Ladies’ sections of the club. At the end of the competition, the winning teams’ scores were very close, with several places having to be decided on countback.

In fourth place, with a total of 84 points, were Steve and Mandy Hobbs and Clive and Sue Stilwell. In third place, with 84 points on countback, were Rosi Brown, Rob Porter, Mike and Min Woodward. 85 points secured second place for Jack Broadway, Phil Howells, Cameron Goudie and Paul Matthews. The overall winners, with an outstanding score of 91 points, were Paul Broadway, Andy Towells, Jon Marquiss and Trevor Dale.

After the prizegiving, a raffle was held. Prizes were kindly donated by club members and sponsors. An auction of a TaylorMade golf hat, autographed by US Open winner, Justin Rose, kindly donated by Clive Stilwell, was successfully bid for by Vice-Captain, Rob Riccio. The fundraising efforts resulted in a final total of £1,100.

Men’s Captain, Paul Thomas and Ladies’ Captain, Min Woodward, thanked all players for their support with a special thanks to sponsors, Techniglaze and Baggio Roofing.
