NEARLY 125 men played in Mendip Golf Club's Flower Centenary Trophy. Div 1 went to David Jukes with a net 68 with Ben Park 2nd with 69 and Alan Clark was 3rd with 70 after count back from Ryan Sainsbury.

Div 2 saw a win for John Parham with 67, Ben Roberts was 2nd with 68 after count back from Spencer Pocock and Alan Broadway and Div 3 went to Eric Jordan with 68 with Paul Godwin 2nd with 70 after count back from Ryan Davis and Mike Tout. However the Trophy went to Rob Edney, playing off 8, with a very fine 65. The Gross Prize went to Dan Owen with a one under par 69 but only after count back from Craig Adams.

The Men’s Avalon C team recorded a fine 3-2 win when away to Stockwood Vale with wins from Kevin Brimble/Charlie Holmes, Clive Copp/Tony Logan and Cliff Hall/Richard Clifford. However things did not go so well when visiting Wedmore with just a half gained by Cliff Hall/Richard Clifford.

The Ladies weekly competition was hit by the first serious rain of the season but nevertheless the winners of the Arizona Shuffle, Jenny Merrett/Edwina Willis/Jo Espley/Chris Down posted an excellent score of 79, well clear of the remainder of the field. The Alliance A team visited Burnham in very difficult playing conditions with winds reaching over 40 mph at times.

However they only went down 6-8 with wins form Aimee Sawyer, Libbie Dezis and Ellen Reakes. They followed this up with a cracking home win over Clevedon 13-1 with wins from Aimee, Libbie and Ellen, Connie Cox, Jinhee Page and Lynne Vowles with Marian Speed gaining the half. The Ladies team playing in the County Rogers Cup event experienced a narrow defeat against Wells, 3-4 with wins coming from team captain Pauline Young, Lynne Vowles and Lally Gibson.

The Seniors saw their good form continuing with two further wins firstly, when visiting Enmore 5-1 with wins from Richard Connock/Keith Gadsden, Paul Godwin/David Judge, Paul Wood/John Shakesby, Bryan Lewis/John Brooksbank (on his birthday) and Tony Taylor/Steve Regler.

This was followed by a 5½-½ home win over Sherborne, exacting revenge for the heavy defeat when visiting them last month. Wins came from Bryan Lewis/Steve Regler, Paul Godwin/Darrin Vowell, Paul Wood/Kevin Carmody, Simon Atkinson/Peter Rumming, Andy Griffiths/David Judge with a half gained by Andy Frampton/ Rob Richardson.

The Seniors Avalon team, while not having a fixture, are winning Div 2 of the Seniors Avalon League, at the half way stage of the season, being unbeaten. They have a healthy lead over the remaining five teams.

Mendip are now running Social Golf events on Wednesday evenings, the first of which a 3 Clubs and a Putter event saw a win for Jude and Alan Padfield after a triple tie and the second event a 2 ball Texas Scramble saw a win for Rosemary Brown/John Ward.

The Junior Section held their annual Junior Open event which attracted 43 entrants from 14 clubs. The overall winner with 40 points came from The Manor House Golf Club (Castle Coombe) with a Bath club Junior winning Div 1 with 39 while Div 2 was won by a Saltford junior with 40 points
