The Daily Mail Foursomes competition is one of the largest competitions in the UK and is open to all.

The Farrington Park Ladies held their qualifying Foursomes Stableford competition on a cold windy day. Countback had to be used to determine second and third places when two experienced teams scored 35 points each. Jenny Ahlberg and Lena Warren took second place ahead of Gail Proctor and Jackie Walker. However, it was the rookie pairing of Kath Cox and Jackie James, both relatively inexperienced golfers, who won with 36 points. Kath and Jackie will find out whom and where they must play the next round, which is run on a Matchplay Knockout basis.

The Lady Captain’s Spoon Bowmaker competition fared better with the weather. Fifteen teams of three competitors, playing off an 85% handicap with the two best scores on each hole to count. Nine teams scored 70 points or more. Four two-spot birdies were recorded at the par 3 holes by Corinne Durbin and Lally Gibson (5th), Carol Jones (8th) and June Symonds (15th). Two teams of experienced players scored well. Fiona Hassard, Lally Gibson and Carol King scored 75 points and finished in third place. Pauline Brixey, Gail Proctor and Wendy Butt were second with 77 points. Marilyn Cass, Janet Corbett and Lesley Mannion topped the leaderboard with 79 points.
