The rain poured down as the Farrington Ladies approached Orchardleigh and the first friendly match of the season.

However, once out on the course, the weather improved. Everyone was made to feel very welcome by the home team and all the matches were close, two finishing on the 17th hole. The result was a good win for Orchardleigh of four games to one.

Farrington Park’s winning combination came from Sandra Hares and Maureen Taylor, so congratulations to them for conquering a tricky course. Everyone enjoyed their day and looks forward to the return match next year.

Pauline Young and Carol Jones won the first round of the Bristol and District Golf Alliance Handicap Foursomes Competition by 5&3, playing against Mendip at Farrington Park in quite unpleasant weather conditions. Carol Jones stepped in at the last moment to partner Pauline, when injury prevented Pauline’s original partner from playing.

The EWGA Medal, the first medal competition of the new season, resulted in the Duchy course getting the better of the Saturday Ladies, the course playing well above its par of 73.

Division One player, Gail Proctor, had the best round with a nett-80, one shot better than Jackie Walker, with June Symonds in third place with nett-84. Angela Hudd scored nett-86 to win Division Two.
