The Autumn equinox has arrived, bringing strong winds and heavy rain showers and an end to last week’s glorious weather.
Happily for the ladies playing in the Fourball Betterball Stableford Committee Cup competition, the showers didn’t last long, but everyone did get rather wet at some stage during their round.
Despite the trying weather conditions, there were some very good scores from the majority of the teams, especially from the early starters. Countback was used to separate the fourth and fifth placed teams after they both scored 35 points. Carol King and Terri O’Shea took fourth place, just edging Gail Proctor and Jackie Walker into fifth.
Third place went to Clare Salter and Jacqui Gregory, with 36 points.
Tracey Watts was the only player to score a two spot birdie. The resulting four points for this birdie, scored at the par 3 fifth hole, helped Tracey and playing partner, Pauline Young, to second place with 37 points. The winners were the first pairing out on the course, Liz Thomas and Pauline Brixey, who won the Committee Cup with a fine score of 39 points.
