The Ladies had a chance to play for two trophies this week in their qualifying Stableford competitions.

Players with a handicap of 36 or above competed in the Coppers Cup, whilst those Ladies with a handicap lower than 36 played for the Douglas Cup.

The fine, sunny weather tempted a large field of 43 players to sign up, but the majority of the players found it difficult to score consistently in the blustery, windy conditions, and only three players scored more than 37 points. Two-spot birdies were scored by Rosi Brown and Viv Dickson (5th), Clare Salter (8th), Carol King and Tracey Watts (15th).

The Coppers Cup was won by Christine Jukes with 30 points, just one point ahead of second-placed Sue Barnes. The final places for the Douglas Trophy were hotly contested. Tracey Watts was the long-time leader in the clubhouse with 33 points. She eventually finished fourth, ahead of Jayne Brown (32) and Rosi Brown (31).

Late in the day, the ever consistent Carol King and Fiona Hassard finished, both scoring 38 points, with countback deciding that Fiona took second place. A birdie, several pars and consistent scoring throughout her round for a fine score of 39 points meant that new lady member, Vivienne Dickson, was rewarded with her first win and became this year’s holder of the Douglas Trophy.
