On a Tuesday morning promising rain, sixteen Ladies set off to play twice round Farrington Park’s nine-hole Manor Course in a gross, medal Championship.

Luckily the rain held off, apart from a brief shower, and we had a beautiful, calm stroll around a green course with lots of birdsong. The nett trophy was won by Mary Hobbs with an excellent score of 47. In second place was Laura Fox with nett-51.

As expected, the lower handicappers came in with the lowest gross scores. The Vets Posy Bowl, for the best gross score by a player aged over seventy, was won by Jane Waller with 71 points. In the main competition, Gail Proctor narrowly beat Jackie Walker on countback to second place with a gross score of 65. Pauline Young was Champion again with a gross score of 64. Very well done to Pauline, who has won this trophy several times.

After the match, we retired to the restaurant for tea and coffee and lots of lovely cakes. A most enjoyable day.
