Farrington Park enjoyed the autumnal sunshine for their recent competition.
This week, it was a qualifying Stableford trophy competition played in memory of long time member, Mara Shepherd.
The Duchy course was undergoing some drainage work on the first five holes and the green-keeping team have been doing essential maintenance work on the greens. Most of the forty-eight strong field found this didn’t make for easy putting, but three players managed two spot birdies: Jill Holland and Julie Toogood on the eighth and Sue Forshaw on the fifteenth.
Jane Richardson was the only player to score thirty-seven points and took forth place.
Tracey Watts continued her good season with thirty-nine points to take second place, one point ahead of Vivienne Dickson.
The round of the day came from thirty-eight handicapper, Jill Holland, who lifted the Mara’s Morning trophy with a fine score of forty-two points.
Tracey and Vivienne had their handicaps cut by one shot, but Jill’s handicap was reduced by four to thirty-four to reflect her excellent round.
Fourteen couples contested the second major competition of the Mixed Section golfing calendar: the Paul Harwood Trophy.
Scores from the teams were the highest seen in recent years; any team scoring 44 points or lower were already out of the prize-winning frame.
Two points separated the second to fourth placed teams – Phil and Julie Toogood scored 47 points to take second place ahead of Sue and Dave Forshaw and fourth placed Issey and Paul Panton.
The winners were last year’s champions, Rob Thain and Lin Papadopoullos (pictured below).
