An unbelievable weekend of sport started with the unexpected demolition of Serena Wiliams by Simona Halep, at Wimbledon, the expected win of Lewis Hamilton, at the British Grand Prix, at Silverstone, and the unbelievable conclusion to the Cricket World Cup, with England beating New Zealand in a Super Over finale, at Lords. After losing three previous finals, it was a fantastic moment for English cricket.
The long, hot summer continues, with golf courses and gardens desperate for a shower or two – preferably at night! The inaugural playing of the 3-ball Champagne Multiplier proved very popular with the players and a number of high scores were recorded. It is never easy to know beforehand what a winning score will be in a new format. However, the trio of Steve Symonds, Chris Liberty and Ray Wilkinson set the benchmark, with their winning score of 142 points.
Results: Steve Symonds/Chris Liberty/Ray Wilkinson 142 points. Bill Waddington/Steve Cope/Steve Park 128 points. Kirk Bizley/Steve Mitchell/John Holland 125 points. Phil Thompson/Richard Collier/Geoff Clare 121 points.
