The Saturday Stableford, on 17th October, was a great day for Andy Smart, with a hole in one on the fifth hole.
With the Autumn conditions starting to make the course play longer, a great score from Stuart Ponfield, of 42 points, topped Division One, followed in second by Huw Jones, on 40 points and Duncan Bratt, in third, on 38 points. In Division Two, an excellent score from Dave Forshaw, on 40 points, with Jamie Webb in second, on 38 points, beating Andy Towells into third on countback.
The Sunday Stableford was held on 18th October in good, sunny conditions for golf and a three-way tie at the top of Division One with all players on 38 points, Ben Josham took first place on countback, with Kevin Brimble on second and Tom Snelling, third. In Division Two, it was a great day at the office for Steve Brixey, taking top spot with an outstanding 45 points, with Andy Howe continuing his good form in second, with 43 points and Andy Tout in third, on 38 points.
Ladies
Ten Coppers (ladies new to golf) competed for the Novice Scratch Salver on Tuesday, 20th October. The aim of the game was to complete two rounds of golf on the par three Manor Course, in the least number of shots. The course was busy, but this did not affect the happy golfers, they left the course having had a thoroughly good time. Julie Toogood’s homemade fruit cake at the half-way stage was very well received!
The scores were very close, with Tracey Watts winning the Salver, with a superb gross 69, from second place, Lally Gibson, with gross 70 and third, Sandra Hares, with gross 72. The experienced helpers were not forgotten and for a little extra fun, a box of chocolates was won by Pitti Morris.
After the presentation of the Novice Scratch Salver by Ladies Captain, Bobby Appleby, the results of the Summer Coppers’ Eclectic was announced. Seven Coppers entered ?the Eclectic competition, submitting up to ten cards to calculate the lowest score on each hole. The winner of the Coppers’ Eclectic Trophy was Lally Gibson, with a gross 87 and second was Linda Rogers, with a gross 89.
