THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club have experienced mixed fortunes in their last two team games of the season with the social side winning convincingly at home to Henstridge but the league team going down in their away match against Tall Pines.

The club’s debut season in the Avalon Seniors League has overall been a very successful one but in the final game of the campaign they were beaten 4-1 away to Tall Pines. Roger Parfitt and John Fuller were the only winners, keeping the flag flying with a 4&3 victory but Fosseway captain Andy Flagg and Chris Appleton and Martyn Cuer and Paul Trigg lost by the same margin while Shaun Goodwin and Malcolm Emery were beaten 3&2. In a closer encounter Gary Wilcox and Allen Cheney finished one down.

The return fixture at home to Henstridge saw Fosseway gain a 4.5-0.5 success. Alan Jones and Phil Winsley and Graham Edgell and Rob Wells won their matches 5&4, Mike Cole and Appleton finished 2 up while Paul Trigg and John Cooper ended a close contest by being one up. Cyril Blacker and Pete Young halved their match.

The club’s Bogey competition for the Eric James Cup saw Martyn Cuer come out on top with a score of +4. Phil Winsley was one shot behind on +3 with Noel Chatfield third on +2.

Meanwhile, Noel Chatfield also enjoyed a very good day in the Committee Cup joining up with Rob Wells to win the Greensomes’ event with a nett score of 62. Shaun Goodwin and Alan Jones finished second, two shots behind while Winsley and Chris Champion needed countback to claim third place with their score of 65 equalled by Gerry Rowell and John Cooper.
