There was a close finish to the Charity Trophy Texas Scramble in the Senior’s section of Fosseway Golf Club with just two shots separating first and third place.

The event, which raised £84 for charity, saw Allen Cheney and Cyril Blacker eventually come out on top with a nett 59. One shot behind were Seniors’ secretary Alan Jones and his partner Gerry Rowell with Howard Nowell and Malcolm Tucker third with a nett 61.

Tucker and Nowell also featured in the top three for the January medal with Tucker winning the event by four shots with a nett 59. Nowell finished in third place with a nett 63 just beaten on countback by Chris Appleton.

Two of the ongoing winter events have now reached their closing stages with the finalists in the Guerwyn Thomas Cup and Winter League established.

In the semi-finals of the Guerwyn Thomas Cup, Pat Cray and George Thurston beat Bill Lester and Brian Phelps while Rowell and Terry Button had the better of Appleton and Blacker. In the semi-finals of the Winter League Thurston in his first year at the club took full advantage of his shot allowance to overcome Phelps and will meet Mike Weeks in the final after the latter defeated Tucker.
