The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club enjoyed a successful week of social matches with home wins against both Whitley and Westbury.
The 4-2 success against Whitley was their first against their Wiltshire opponents since 2016. Captain, Gerry Rowell, set the ball rolling, winning 2&1 alongside Alan Vowell. Vice-Captain, Martyn Cuer and Mike Ricketts were in fine form, coming home 5&3 victors. John Smart and Brian Woodruff finished one-up and Howard Nowell and Alan White triumphed, 3&2. Alan Jones and Mike Weeks lost 2&1 and Brian Phelps and John Williams were beaten 3&1.
The successful partnership of Cuer and Ricketts continued their good work two days later, notching up a 3&2 win in Fosseway’s 4.5-1.5 victory. There were convincing 5&4 successes for the pairings of John Bendle and Nick Foxwell, and Woodruff and Malcolm Tucker while Jones and Frank Reeves won 3&2. Nowell and Weeks looked on the way to victory when they led by two holes with two to play, but had to settle for a half, while Rowell and Cyril Blacker finished one-down.
