The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club came off second best when they entertained Brinkworth in their latest social match, losing the match 4-2.
The star turn for Fosseway was the pairing of Graham Edgell and John Smart, who won 6&5, while John Bendle and Alan Vowell also came out on top, winning 3&1. In close contests, Ivan Love with Doug Lane and Martyn Cuer with Brian Woodruff both finished one-down, but Captain, Gerry Rowell, and Allen Cheney lost 3&2 and Mike Ricketts and Alan Jones were beaten 4&3.
Two of Fosseway’s recent recruits, Brian Fear and John Smart, joined up with Alan White to win the Continuforms Trophy. They won the three-ball Texas Scramble with a nett-48. In second place, three shots behind, were Cheney, Reg Curtis and Malcolm Tucker, with Cuer, Rowell and Woodruff third with a nett-52.
The Seniors were very sad to learn of the recent death of Barbara Bruce, who was a popular visitor to the club when her husband, Rod, was a prominent member of the Seniors’ section. Barbara had not enjoyed good health for some time, and condolences are sent to Rod, daughter Emma and the family.
