It was again a case of ‘home, sweet home’ for the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club in a week of mixed fortunes in the most recent social matches.
They followed an impressive 5-1 success on their own course against Cricket St Thomas with a 6-0 defeat away to Cannington.
The win at home to Cricket St Thomas was achieved in convincing style. There were three matches which finished in 3&2 triumphs. Captain, Gerry Rowell, joined up with an in-form Cyril Blacker for the first of these and was followed by Mike Ricketts and Graham Edgell and Mike Weeks and Nick Foxwell. Alan White hit top form and together with Malcolm Tucker won 6&4 and there was a 3&1 victory for Doug Lane and Brian Woodruff. The only pairing to come out on the wrong side was that of Martyn Cuer and John Waters who lost 3&2.
The home fixture with Cannington had finished in a 3-3 draw but on their home course they proved just too strong although most of the matches were closely fought affairs. Both Blacker and Lane and the Curtis brothers Jack and Reg were only one down at the finish while skipper Rowell and Woodruff and Weeks and Terry Button were beaten 2&1. Ricketts and Frank Reeves and White and Alan Jones found it harder going losing their contests 5&4.
